Residents in Northwest Douglas County – your new route to US 85 is open!

The Waterton Road Extension – from Rampart Range Road to US 85 – opened this morning right after the Board of Douglas County Commissioners gathered with members of the Sterling Ranch Community Authority Board and the Sterling Ranch Development Company to cut the ceremonial ribbon.

The $40.2 million project was made possible through a partnership with Sterling Ranch Development Company. Phase 2 ($25.8 million) was fully funded by Sterling Ranch Development Company and the Sterling Ranch Community Authority Board. Douglas County managed the construction project and funded Phase 1 ($14.4 million).

The 2.8-mile Phase 1 was completed in 2020. Overall, the project included five bridges that were designed for elk crossing since the roadway crosses the County’s major wildlife corridor between the Pike National Forest and the Highland Ranch OSCA. In all, the new extension is more than 5 miles long.

The County’s 2040 Transportation Master Plan identified the need for this project to give those in Roxborough Village, Chatfield Farms, Roxborough Downs, River Canyon and Sterling Ranch an alternative to Titan Road for access to US 85.

A safe and accessible multimodal transportation network is one of the Board of County Commissioner’s six core priorities. Read more about the County’s transportation initiatives online.
